Helion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006216
The nucleus of a helium-3 atom, consisting of two protons and one neutron. In atmospheric physics, helions are a component of primary cosmic rays that enter the Earth's upper atmosphere. The interaction of these high-energy particles with atmospheric gases contributes to the production of cosmogenic isotopes, such as beryllium-10 and carbon-14, which are used in climate studies.
