Heliograph

An instrument designed to record the duration of sunshine at a particular location. It typically consists of a glass sphere that focuses sunlight onto a specially prepared card, burning a trace as the sun moves across the sky. The length of the burn trace directly corresponds to the hours of bright sunshine.
