Sunshine recorder

An instrument designed to measure the duration of direct sunshine at a specific location. It typically consists of a glass sphere that focuses sunlight onto a specially prepared card, burning a trace as the sun moves across the sky. The length of the burned trace indicates the total hours of bright sunshine during the day.
