Intensity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006578

A measure of the strength or severity of a meteorological phenomenon, quantified using a specific scale or metric. For tropical cyclones, intensity is defined by the maximum sustained surface wind speed, while for tornadoes it is rated on the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale based on observed damage. Precipitation intensity is the rate at which precipitation falls, measured in millimeters or inches per hour.
