Interrupted stream
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006619
A stream whose channel has some reaches that carry water all year and others that run dry for part of the year, so perennial and intermittent sections alternate along its length. The pattern arises where the channel alternately gains from and loses water to the ground, as when it crosses permeable deposits or karst, where flow may go underground and reappear. It differs from an intermittent stream, whose entire length stops flowing in dry periods.
