Navigable semicircle

The half of a tropical cyclone, relative to its direction of motion, where the wind speeds are generally lower and the seas are less severe. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the left-hand semicircle when facing the direction of storm movement. Mariners attempt to steer into this region to avoid the most dangerous conditions.
