Law of storms

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006893

A set of empirical rules developed in the 19th century to describe the general movement and characteristics of tropical cyclones in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. These rules provided guidance for mariners to avoid the most dangerous quadrants of a storm. While superseded by modern forecasting, they represented an early understanding of storm dynamics.
