Wave theory of cyclones
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010158
An early meteorological theory proposing that extratropical cyclones develop as waves on the polar front, a boundary between cold polar air and warm tropical air. This theory, developed by the Bergen School of meteorology, described the formation of a wave-like disturbance that amplifies into a mature cyclone. It provided a foundational understanding of mid-latitude weather systems.
