Night visual range

The maximum distance at which a moderately intense light source can be seen and identified by an observer at night. It is the nighttime equivalent of daytime meteorological visibility but is dependent on the intensity of the light source and the background illumination. Night visual range is not a standard reported meteorological observation; instead, runway visual range (RVR) is used for aviation purposes.
