Allard's law
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010362
A principle describing the propagation of light through the atmosphere, stating that the illuminance from a point source decreases with the square of the distance and is attenuated exponentially by atmospheric extinction. This law is used to calculate the visibility of lights, such as lighthouses or aircraft navigation lights, under varying atmospheric conditions. It accounts for both geometric spreading and atmospheric absorption and scattering.
