Meteorological range
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007246
A measure of atmospheric visibility, defined as the distance at which the contrast between an object and its background falls to 0.02 (2 percent) of its original value. This range is inversely proportional to the atmospheric extinction coefficient, which accounts for scattering and absorption by air molecules and aerosols. It is often calculated using Koschmieder's Law.
