Oblique visual range

The maximum distance at which an observer can discern an object or light source when looking at an angle other than horizontal. This measurement is influenced by atmospheric extinction, which varies with the path length and the concentration of obscuring particles. It is particularly relevant for aviation, where pilots often view targets from above or below.
