Nilas

A type of very thin, elastic sea ice, typically dark in color, that forms on a calm sea surface. It is characterized by its ability to bend and undulate with waves without breaking. Nilas is an early stage of sea ice development, preceding the formation of thicker ice types, and is classified into dark nilas (up to 5 cm thick) and light nilas (5-10 cm thick).
