Old snow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007679
Snow that has undergone metamorphism, where its original crystal structure has changed due to processes like melting, refreezing, sublimation, and compaction. This transformation results in denser, more granular snow with altered physical properties compared to freshly fallen snow. Its density can range from approximately 200 kg/m³ to over 500 kg/m³, depending on the extent of metamorphism.
