Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007527

A type of granular snow that has been partially compacted and recrystallized, representing an intermediate stage in the transformation of fresh snow into glacial ice. It forms when snow persists through at least one summer melt season, undergoing processes of melting, refreezing, and compaction. Névé is denser and harder than fresh snow but less dense than glacial ice, typically found in the accumulation zones of glaciers.
