New Guinea Coastal Current

An ocean current flowing westward along the northern coast of New Guinea, driven by the Pacific trade winds. This warm, low-salinity current transports water from the western Pacific Ocean into the Indonesian Throughflow. Its strength and variability influence regional sea surface temperatures and rainfall patterns.
