Snowdrift glacier

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008998

A small, stationary accumulation of snow and ice that persists through the summer melt season, formed by wind-blown snow collecting in sheltered depressions or lee slopes. These features do not exhibit internal flow like larger glaciers but can contribute to local hydrology. They are found in mountainous regions and polar environments where snow accumulation exceeds ablation.
