Accumulation zone

The region of a glacier or ice sheet where the annual snowfall and other forms of solid precipitation exceed the annual melt and sublimation. This area experiences a net gain in ice mass each year, driving the flow of the glacier downslope. The elevation of the accumulation zone varies with climate and glacier size.
