Net balance

The overall change in the mass of a glacier over a specified period, representing the difference between total accumulation and total ablation. Accumulation includes snowfall and freezing rain, while ablation encompasses melting, sublimation, and calving. A positive net balance indicates the glacier is growing, whereas a negative balance signifies it is shrinking.
