Net radiation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007513
The total balance of incoming and outgoing radiation at a surface, encompassing both shortwave (solar) and longwave (terrestrial) components. It is the sum of net shortwave radiation and net longwave radiation. A positive net radiation indicates a gain of energy by the surface, while a negative value signifies a loss, driving processes like evaporation and sensible heat flux.
