Longwave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007043
Infrared energy emitted by the Earth and its atmosphere, balancing the incoming shortwave radiation from the sun. This terrestrial radiation has wavelengths greater than about 4 micrometers, corresponding to the temperatures of the Earth's surface and atmosphere. The net longwave flux at the top of the atmosphere is a key factor in determining global temperature changes and is measured in watts per square meter (W/m²).
