Net pyrgeometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007511

A specialized radiometer that measures the net longwave radiation flux, which is the difference between the downward longwave radiation from the atmosphere and the upward longwave radiation emitted by the Earth's surface. It typically uses a thermopile sensor that responds to infrared radiation in the wavelength range of approximately 4 to 100 micrometers. This instrument is used in energy balance studies to quantify radiative cooling or warming.
