Ångström pyrgeometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003510

An instrument designed to measure the net longwave radiation flux from the atmosphere, specifically the downward infrared radiation emitted by the sky. It operates by comparing the temperature of two blackened surfaces, one exposed to the sky and one shielded. This device is used in meteorology and climatology to study the Earth's energy balance.
