Ångström compensation pyrheliometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003509
A precision instrument used to measure the intensity of direct solar radiation. It operates on the principle of electrical compensation, where two identical blackened strips are exposed alternately to sunlight, and the shaded strip is heated electrically until its temperature matches the sunlit strip. The electrical power required for compensation is proportional to the solar radiation intensity, typically measured in watts per square meter.
