Depth of compensation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004937
The specific depth in a body of water where the rate of photosynthesis by aquatic plants and algae exactly balances the rate of respiration. Below this depth, respiration exceeds photosynthesis, leading to a net consumption of oxygen. This depth is influenced by light penetration, which is affected by water clarity and suspended particulate matter.
