Compensation of instruments
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004548
The process of correcting for systematic errors in meteorological instruments caused by environmental factors, such as temperature or pressure changes. This involves designing instruments with built-in mechanisms or applying mathematical adjustments to raw readings. For example, a bimetallic strip in a barometer compensates for mercury density variations with temperature.
