Compensated scale barometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004547
A mercury barometer with a fixed cistern whose scale divisions are shortened slightly to allow for the small change in cistern level as the column rises and falls, so the height can be read directly without resetting the mercury surface to a zero mark. The Kew pattern is the standard example. Readings still need correction for temperature and gravity.
