Compass

An instrument used for navigation and orientation that indicates direction relative to the Earth's magnetic poles or true north. In meteorology, compasses are used in conjunction with other instruments, such as anemometers, to determine the direction of wind or to orient meteorological equipment. A magnetic compass relies on the Earth's magnetic field.
