Capacity correction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004133

A correction applied to readings from a fixed-cistern mercury barometer to account for the change in the mercury level within the cistern as the atmospheric pressure varies. As mercury rises in the tube, the level in the cistern falls, requiring an adjustment to obtain the true barometric height. This correction is specific to the design and dimensions of the instrument.
