Broadband radiation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010409
Electromagnetic radiation integrated across a wide portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, encompassing a broad range of wavelengths. In atmospheric science, this includes both incoming shortwave solar radiation and outgoing longwave terrestrial radiation, which together determine the Earth's energy balance. Measurements are made by instruments like pyranometers for shortwave radiation and pyrgeometers for longwave radiation, with results expressed in watts per square meter (W/m²).
