Net primary production
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007509
The amount of organic matter produced by photosynthetic organisms in an ecosystem, minus the amount consumed by their own respiration. It represents the total energy available to heterotrophic organisms within that ecosystem. This metric is a key indicator of ecosystem health and carbon cycling, often measured in units of mass per unit area per unit time.
