Accumulation area

The upper part of a glacier or ice sheet where the annual gain of snow and ice mass exceeds the annual loss. This region is characterized by net positive mass balance, contributing to the glacier's growth and flow. The boundary between the accumulation area and the ablation area is known as the equilibrium line.
