Alimentation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003432

The process by which a glacier gains mass, primarily through the accumulation of snow and ice. This input of material occurs in the accumulation zone, typically at higher elevations where snowfall exceeds melt. The rate of alimentation influences the overall mass balance and movement of the glacier.
