Snowdrift ice
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008999
Ice formed from the compaction and refreezing of wind-blown snow that has accumulated in depressions or behind obstacles. This type of ice is denser than fresh snow and can persist longer due to its increased resistance to melting. It is a common feature in polar and alpine environments, contributing to permafrost formation and ground insulation.
