Water equivalent of snow

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010104

The depth of liquid water that would be produced if a specific amount of snow were completely melted. This value is determined by measuring the snow depth and its density, as fresh snow has a much lower density than old or compacted snow. It is a key metric for assessing water resources stored in snowpacks and for flood prediction.
