R-scope
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010731
A type of cathode-ray tube display used in early radar systems that shows the range to a target. The display presents a signal trace where the horizontal axis represents distance (range) from the radar, and vertical deflections (blips) along the trace indicate the presence and strength of a returned echo at a specific range. While largely superseded by more advanced displays like the Plan Position Indicator (PPI), the R-scope was fundamental in providing range information for weather and military applications.
