Radio blackout
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008319
A severe disruption or complete loss of high-frequency radio communication, primarily caused by intense solar flares that ionize the Earth's upper atmosphere. This increased ionization absorbs radio waves, preventing their reflection back to Earth. Such events can last from minutes to several hours and affect global communication and navigation systems.
