Ship synoptic code
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008847
A standardized format for transmitting meteorological observations from ships at sea to weather forecasting centers. The code, formally known as FM 13 SHIP, contains groups of numbers representing atmospheric and oceanic conditions like wind, temperature, pressure, cloud cover, wave height, and sea surface temperature. These reports are collected at synoptic hours (00, 06, 12, 18 UTC) and distributed globally over the Global Telecommunication System.
