Shoal

A submerged ridge, bank, or bar composed of sand or other unconsolidated material that rises from the seabed to a shallow depth. Its presence can alter local currents and wave patterns, creating hazardous conditions for navigation. The term also describes the process of wave transformation where surface waves entering shallower water increase in height and steepness before breaking.
