Short-term hydrologic forecast

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008854

A prediction of streamflow, water levels, or soil moisture conditions for a period extending from a few hours up to several days. These forecasts rely on current hydrologic data, such as river gauge readings and soil saturation, combined with quantitative precipitation forecasts from meteorological models. They are used for flood warnings, reservoir management, and navigation advisories.
