Snow concrete
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010763
An extremely dense, hard mass of snow formed by the compression and refreezing of wet snow, giving it a consistency similar to ice or concrete. This material is found in avalanche debris and at the base of deep, old snowpacks where it has been subjected to immense pressure. The density of snow concrete can exceed 550 kilograms per cubic meter, making it very difficult to dig through with standard rescue shovels.
