Solenoidal index

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009042

A diagnostic quantity derived from atmospheric wind fields that quantifies the rotational component of the flow. It is related to the curl of the velocity vector and provides insight into the presence and strength of vortices or circulations. This index is often used in the analysis of tropical cyclones and other mesoscale weather systems.
