Standard artillery zone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009186
One of a fixed series of horizontal layers of the atmosphere, each defined by its altitude limits above the gun position, for which an average wind and air density or temperature is computed in an artillery meteorological message. The values apply to the layer as a whole rather than to a place or a season. Zones are stacked from the surface upward, with the number needed depending on the maximum ordinate of the trajectory.
