Storm wave

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009283

An ocean wave generated by strong winds associated with a significant weather system, such as a tropical cyclone or an extratropical storm. These waves are characterized by their large height, long wavelength, and considerable energy, capable of causing substantial coastal erosion and damage. Their characteristics depend on wind speed, duration, and fetch length.
