Subfrontal cloud

Cloud formations that develop in the cooler air mass ahead of an advancing warm front or occluded front. These clouds are typically stratiform in nature, such as nimbostratus or altostratus, and produce widespread, steady precipitation. Their formation is due to the gradual lifting of moist air over the colder air mass.
