Subsurface float
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009355
An autonomous instrument designed to drift at a predetermined depth in the ocean, collecting data on temperature, salinity, and current velocity. These devices periodically ascend to the surface to transmit their data via satellite before descending again. The Argo program uses thousands of these floats to monitor global ocean conditions.
