Subtropical jet stream
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009364
A fast-flowing, narrow current of air located in the upper troposphere, typically found at altitudes of 10-14 km and latitudes between 20 and 40 degrees. This jet stream forms due to the conservation of angular momentum as air moves poleward from the tropics and is a key component of the global atmospheric circulation. It influences the movement of weather systems and can cause clear-air turbulence.
