Subtropical ridge

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009365

An elongated area of high atmospheric pressure extending zonally across the subtropics, often associated with the subtropical high-pressure belt. This ridge is characterized by descending air, which suppresses convection and leads to stable, dry conditions. Its position and strength significantly influence regional weather patterns, including tropical cyclone tracks and monsoon rainfall.
