A cold wind from the south in Brazil, named from the word for south. It accompanies outbreaks of cold air from higher southern latitudes and brings a sharp fall in temperature, mostly in the cooler months. The stronger form, the surazo, blows with little cloud over the interior and the middle Amazon valley, and the cold spell it brings is called a friagem.
