Youg
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010307
A hot, dry, southerly wind that occurs in the Mediterranean region, particularly in the former Yugoslavia, now affecting countries like Croatia and Montenegro. It is a type of sirocco wind, originating over the Sahara Desert and picking up moisture as it crosses the Mediterranean Sea, though it often arrives on the Adriatic coast as a dry wind due to the Foehn effect over the Dinaric Alps. The youg, also spelled jugo, can bring hazy skies and uncomfortably warm conditions.
